RAMS 2016 will be held at Lancaster University, which offers a pleasant and convenient setting on a modern campus situated three miles from Lancaster town centre. The conference will be held in the Management School (LUMS - building 52 on the campus map). All lectures take place in Lancaster University Management School, Lecture theatre 1. Lunch, coffee, poster sessions and vendor exhibitions will take place in the hub area outside the lecture theatre.

Parking is available in visitor car parks I, G & H, close to the LUMS building. Parking permits will be available to pick up from the registration desk on Thursday morning. If you are arriving on Wednesday 21st September, parking permits can be obtained the Centre for Training and Development (CETAD) – building 13 on the campus map.
Accommodation is in House 54 “Grange”, in Cartmel College – E13 on the campus map. Keys can be collected from the registration desk during lunch on Thursday 22nd. If you are arriving on Wednesday 21st September, accommodation keys can be picked up from Centre for Training and Development (CETAD) building 13 on the campus map, accessed via Bowland Avenue North/East. CETAD remains open until 11pm, after which time 24hr accommodation check in will be possible from the security lodge – building 34 on the campus map.
We ask that all accommodation keys are returned to the registration desk on Friday 23rd September, either before the first session or during coffee at 10:30am. Meeting room 5 near the hub area will be available on both days for luggage storage.
If you have signed up for the castle tour on Wednesday evening, please meet at 6:35pm in LUMS main reception. We will take pre-arranged taxis to Lancaster castle, and return to campus around 9pm. We would suggest eating before the tour, otherwise Lancaster House Hotel bar serves food until 10pm.

Lancaster University campus enjoys excellent transport links, being a short bus or taxi journey from Lancaster station which is on the West Coast Main Line (2.5 hours direct from London Euston via Birmingham, and 2 hours direct from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Leeds).


The campus is also situated directly adjacent to the M6 for easy access by car. Conference attendees will be guaranteed free parking in the ample car parks for the duration of the conference.


Lancaster University has recently undergone a multi-million pound investment in general refurbishment of the campus and the building of new Chemistry, Physics and Engineering departments. Materials Science is a major focus of the university, as demonstrated by the recent establishment of a new cross-disciplinary Materials Science Institute. This has been coupled with a recent recruitment drive, which specifically targeted Materials Science as a core research area.
